At the gates for 07:30 when the pandas are feeding, then the nurseries, then a Sichuan lunch and a teahouse afternoon.
The short version
07:00
Hotel pickup
Private vehicle north to the base. Early because the animals are the reason and they are only active early.
07:30
Enter at opening
Straight to the far enclosures while the paths are empty. Pandas are eating bamboo and moving — the two hours that make the visit.
09:00
The nursery
The indoor nursery where the year's cubs are kept, in incubators or on platforms depending on their age. Photographs without flash only.
10:30
Sub-adult enclosures
Young pandas between one and three years old, which is when they are at their most absurd and most active.
12:00
Sichuan lunch
Back in the city for a proper meal: mapo tofu, twice-cooked pork, fish-fragrant aubergine, and a non-spicy dish for relief.
14:00
Teahouse afternoon, then back
A bamboo chair, a glass of green tea and an hour in a Chengdu teahouse — refills are free and nobody rushes you. Your driver collects you afterwards and you are at the hotel by about 15:30.
Pickup at 07:00 from hotels in Chengdu's central districts. The base is 10 km north, and the drive is 30 minutes if you leave now and 50 if you leave at 08:00.
In July and August, when temperatures pass 26°C, pandas retreat indoors and become inactive. We will tell you honestly if the day is not worth it and offer the Leshan or old town tour instead.

No. Physical contact ended years ago at all reputable facilities, and any operator offering it is not one you should book with. The volunteer programme involves cleaning and feeding work, not handling.
About 3 km on paved paths through bamboo, with a battery cart available between the main zones. It is shaded and flat, so it is easier than most zoo visits.
Not for a day trip. The Dujiangyan centre is further out and focuses on pandas being prepared for release, which is interesting but has fewer animals visible. Chengdu is the reliable choice.
