The city from 450 metres, a Cantonese dinner on the south bank, then an hour on the water while the riverfront lights come up.
The short version
15:00
Hotel pickup
A late start by design. Metro to the tower on the south bank, timed so the deck is not stacked with the sunset crowd.
16:00
Canton Tower observation deck
Up to 450 metres, with an open-air terrace at the top. On a clear afternoon you can see the Pearl River delta's edge.
17:45
Walk the south bank
Along the riverside past the old wharves and the new cultural strip, while the light drops and the towers start switching on.
18:30
Cantonese dinner
Roast goose from a shop that hangs them in the window, or clay-pot fish, plus a plate of blanched greens and a double-boiled soup.
20:00
Pearl River cruise
An hour downstream and back past the illuminated riverfront, from Haixinsha Island to the bridges at the west end.
21:30
Return to hotel
Driver waiting at the pier, back at your hotel around 21:30.
Pickup at 15:00 from hotels in Yuexiu, Liwan, Tianhe or Haizhu. If you are staying near Baiyun airport, we start an hour earlier and bring you in by car.
This tour assumes you have the afternoon and evening free and want the city at its most flattering. If you also want the old town, book the morning dim sum tour and we will link the two with a short break at the hotel.

About 60 minutes, out and back from the central piers. Book the 20:00 slot: earlier and the lights are not fully up, later and you are tired.
Yes, with notice. Cantonese kitchens handle vegetables seriously — ask for a double-boiled mushroom soup and stir-fried seasonal greens and you will eat well.
The tower and the dinner both work in rain. The cruise runs under cover unless there is a storm warning, in which case we swap it for the opera house interior tour or refund that portion.
